Thinking of Upgrading to IFS Cloud? The Sooner You Start, the Smoother the Journey

Writer: Luke GloverLuke Glover

IFS recently announced updated maintenance fees for older versions. If you're running IFS Apps 8, 9, or 10, you're likely feeling the financial pinch. The message is clear: the longer you wait to upgrade, the more you’ll pay to maintain the status quo.

Here’s the dilemma: You’ve invested heavily in your current setup. Your system works. Your customizations are dialed in. Your users are comfortable. Disrupting all of that can feel brutal.

You’re not alone. I recently spoke with an IFS Apps 8 customer who was in the exact same position. He saw the writing on the wall - an upgrade was inevitable. But convincing his leadership team to invest time, resources, and energy? That was another story. His users were sensitive to change. Pulling SMEs and key users into workshops felt like an uphill battle. Sound familiar?

We mapped out a low-friction, three-step plan to get him on the path to IFS Cloud without blowing up his daily operations.

Step 1: Give Executives a Sneak Peak

We started by demoing key features in IFS Clou, showcasing automation, improved UX, and efficiencies that are baked into the platform. Once executives saw what was possible, the narrative changed. They weren’t just tolerating the idea of upgrading, they were driving it.

Step 2: Quietly Deconstruct CRIMs

Next, we reviewed all CRIMs—customizations, reports, integrations, and modifications. Without needing end-user involvement, we found 60% of configurations and one major mod could be replaced with out-of-the-box Cloud functionality. That meant less risk, lower costs, and a faster project down the road.

Step 3: Start the Re-Implementation

Because this customer was on Apps 8, a re-implementation made more sense than a technical upgrade. While that sounds daunting, customers familiar with IFS adapt to Cloud quickly. In fact, we’ve seen re-implementations take half the time compared to greenfield ERP projects. What used to take a year can now be done in six months.

Upgrading to IFS Cloud isn’t just about keeping current—it’s about unlocking real business value. And the best part? You don’t have to do it all at once. With a strategic, phased approach, you can start laying the groundwork today, minimize disruption, and build momentum.

Ready to talk strategy? Let’s plan your first move.
