IFS is adding layers to its Quality Management!

Updated: Oct 28

If you’ve been following the news lately, you’ve probably noticed the alarming rise in product recalls. From popular brands like Boar’s Head deli meats and McDonald’s Quarter Pounders to Costco’s chicken products, the food and beverage industry has been heavily impacted. And it doesn’t stop there—recalls can happen to any manufacturer.

In fact, a recent study, The Pulse of Quality in Manufacturing, revealed that 73% of surveyed companies experienced a product recall in the last five years, with 48% noting an increase in recalls compared to five years ago. Recalls aren’t just inconvenient—they’re costly. They can damage brand reputation (35% of respondents), delay product launches (32%), weaken customer satisfaction (34%), force plant shutdowns (30%), and even lead to layoffs (26%).

Quality management has never been more critical. For many companies, unfortunately, it’s still an afterthought. The importance of a well-structured quality management process often only becomes clear when recalls happen.

That’s why it’s encouraging to see more companies embracing comprehensive solutions like IFS’s quality management module. One of the most recent features introduced in 24R1 is the Inspection of By-Products & Disassembly Components. This feature enables inspection of by-products and disassembly components directly within the shop order execution process.

Here’s how it helps: during manufacturing, by-products or leftover components are often produced. These items can be inspected, tracked, and re-assigned as needed, offering an added layer of quality assurance. By inspecting by-products, manufacturers gain a better understanding of the quality of their finished goods. Meanwhile, disassembled parts can be re-used or sold individually, maximizing value and minimizing waste.

With quality checks at every level, this feature strengthens your defense against costly recalls. And IFS’s commitment to innovation doesn’t stop here; if you attended the recent IFS Unleashed conference, you likely saw a preview of how AI integration will continue to enhance the platform’s capabilities. Particularly around predictive modeling and tracking using AI in quality management and control plans.

Quality management is no longer a “nice-to-have”—it’s a necessity to protect your brand, customers, and bottom line. With powerful tools like IFS’s quality management module, you can stay a step ahead of recalls and keep your products at the highest standards. Embrace quality today to secure your company’s future.
